Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, FSSAI is a statutory body which came into existence under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The statutory body is responsible for the regulation of food businesses and ensuring food safety in India. FSSAI registration is necessary for all food business operators to maintain hygiene standards and consumer trust.

 

Who Requires FSSAI Registration?

FSSAI registration is necessary for:

  • A small-sized food business whose annual turnover is ₹12 lakhs or below in a year.
  • Petty food manufacturers, vendors, and street food operators.
  • Such persons engaged in small-scale food processing, storage, distribution, and sale.

 

FSSAI Licenses Categories

  1. Basic Registration: Small-sized business with an annual turnover less than ₹12 lakhs.he applicant has to fill the FSSAI basic registration form – A.
  2. State License: For medium-sized business with a yearly turnover of ₹12 lakhs to ₹20 crores.The applicant has to fill the FSSAI state license Form – B.
  3. Central License: For large business houses with a turnover of more than ₹20 crores, or those dealing with import/export of food products.The applicant has to fill the FSSAI Central License Form – B.

  6. Food Safety Management System plan

  9. Unit processing plan with sizes and area allocation operation wise.
  10. Name and list of machinery and equipment.
  11. Authority Letter.
  12. Water Testing Report.
  13. Sources of Raw Materials.
  14. Supporting Documents for Proof of Turnover and Transportation.
  15. Declaration Form.

 

Registration Process

  1. Application: Fill Form A for basic registration or Form B for State/Central License.
  2. Uploading of Documents: Attach all the required documents along with the application.
  3. Payment of Fee: Pay the fee as applicable, depending upon type of license.
  4. Approval and Issuance: The FSSAI reviews the application as approved and issues a 14-digit registration or license number.

 

Validity and Renewal

  • FSSAI registration license issued for 1 to 5 years, depending on the tenure selected while filing the application.
  • Licenses should be renewed at least 30 days before the date of expiry to avoid any sort of penalty.

Penalty for Non-Compliance

In case of failure of FSSAI registration or non-compliance with its rules and regulations, severe penalties will be given in the form of fines and suspension of business activities.
